Cash Accounts

Simple, non-leveraged investment accounts used for buying and selling securities. Clients cannot borrow to purchase securities in these accounts.

Cash Account (CAD)

  • Currency: Canadian Dollars
  • Use Case: Standard taxable investment account for Canadian residents.
  • Suitability: Clients with low to moderate trading frequency who do not want or need leverage.
  • Tax: Gains, interest, and dividends are taxable annually.

Cash Account (USD)

  • Currency: U.S. Dollars
  • Use Case: For clients investing directly in U.S. securities, minimizing currency conversion fees.
  • Suitability: Investors with consistent U.S. equity exposure or those receiving USD income.
  • Tax: Same as above; clients may also need to file T1135 (Foreign Income Verification Statement) if assets exceed $100,000 CAD in foreign holdings.
